QRP Kits having popular come back among Amateur Radio
Operators.
By; C.W. Crist, W9IH
Old Mode, new equipment and concepts to help Amateur Radio Operators
test their skills.
QRP is found challenging by Two (2) Johnson County Hams. Ken, K9POE
& Roger W9BZ are building 40 meter and 20 meter QRP kits respectively.
These kits are just two of five solid state kits offered to amateurs by
Ten-Tec today.
When the Kit arrives in the less than a pound box measuring only 5 inches
square; one finds it a little hard to believe that a transceiver can be
packed into that small package. Once it is opened the challenge of kit
building begins as you sort and organize the some 250 odd parts from resistors
to a very nice black anodized and labeled Chassis and cabinet. Ten-Tec
has helped a little by bagging some parts according to the step by step
instructions ;4 ICs, 19 transistors and 13 diodes a few controls and some
soldering mixed with general mechanical assembly skills and you have a
very compact rugged one band transceiver. The instruction manual is very
wel planned and well
illustrated.
Add a power supply , CW key and your choice of antenna; bingo your on the air....!
Here are some spec's and contact information for the QRPer's out there.
