Indiana Blind School students take Ham Exam
December,11 2000

Eighteen degrees Fahrenheit on a Monday evening in December was the setting for the most recent VE testing session at the Indiana School for the Blind.

Located at 7700 north College Ave. in Indianapolis ,five students of the Amateur radio class which had taken place during the past several weeks, gathered with there instructors Roger Shoemake (WA9EFP) and John Hogan (KB9OIK) to take their amateur radio license exams.
Approximately eleven volunteer examiners lead by Gale Wuollet (AA9WU) and Pat Wuollet (KB9TPK) form the Indianapolis Red Cross VE Team, participated as students Adam, Christopher, Jonathan and Christopher all took the Technician exam and Misty gave the general class exam a try. The VE team had some unusual and different techniques to present the tests
to the students. They had to read the exams for them and then mark the answer that they selected to each question. Two of the five passed the Tech. Class exam and all vowed to return for another try in the near future.

VE teams sometimes have to go to the ends of the earth to administer the exams, and this day wasn't much different. As the exam session ended around 9:30 PM the outside temps had dropped to 18 degrees and the winds were blowing 30-35 knots, this made returning home for most ,very
interesting....

At print of this article all VE team members have been accounted for and
ready for the next exam adventure...!
