IRCC  2006 “OUTSTANDING AMATEUR OF THE YEAR”

The Indiana Radio Club Council has named Kevin Berlen K9HX as the 2006 Outstanding Amateur of the Year.  Kevin has served for four out of the last 12 years as president of the Wabash Valley Amateur Radio Association. He has been involved in Field Day from the first year he was licensed.  For the last 20 years he has been there from start to finish, setting up, operating and tearing down.

Kevin has been instrumental in bringing new hams on board. In the last 15 years he has served as an instructor in at least two yearly classes and also finished the license process serving as a VE. Because of his knowledge, he is an excellent "elmer", taking his time, money and equipment to help some new amateur to set up his or her first amateur station.

There is not a repeater in a several square mile area in western Indiana that does not have Kevin's finger prints on it. Kevin has served in Illiana Skywarn for over 25 years, both as a spotter and net control.

Kevin has served amateur radio as a technician, as a teacher, as a public servant and with his wife Donetta, has raised a family who are all hams.
